Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Systems Engineer with strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux expertise to support enterprise Linux operations, security remediation, automation, and cross-team execution. This contractor role is well suited for a hands-on engineer who can independently drive RHEL 8/RHEL 9 work, communicate clearly with technical stakeholders, and help maintain reliable, compliant Linux platforms.

Primary Mission

Support the operational health of the Linux Center of Expertise by helping execute RHEL 8/RHEL 9 security remediation, coordinating with service owners, maintaining automation through Puppet and Ansible, and completing KTLO operational work across the OS Engineering organization.

Primary Responsibilities

CIS & Security Compliance

  • Support CIS Level 1 and Level 2 remediation activities for RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 environments.
  • Coordinate remediation work with application owners, infrastructure teams, Security, and dependent service teams.
  • Track remediation progress, dependencies, exceptions, and validation evidence through completion.

Security Vulnerability Remediation

  • Support OS vulnerability remediation, patch implementation, and emergency remediation for critical findings.
  • Use automation where practical to reduce repetitive manual work and improve execution consistency.
  • Partner with Security teams to resolve findings within required timelines.

KTLO Operations

  • Provide operational support for Configuration Management and OS Engineering assignment groups.
  • Handle interrupt requests, incidents, intake requests, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production support.
  • Maintain clear status updates on operational work, risks, blockers, and dependencies.

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Work closely with Security Engineering, Service Owners, Infrastructure Engineering, OS Engineering, and Configuration Management engineers.
  • Communicate project status, blockers, risks, and decisions in a clear and timely manner.
  • Identify dependencies early and help drive them to resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • CompTIA Linux+ and/or Security+.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools.
  • Git version control proficiency.
  • Experience with immutable infrastructure practices.
  • Knowledge of modern container orchestration and microservices infrastructure.
